Description:
Naginels is a 2 years Co-operative Research Project of the Sixth Framework programme of the European Union involving 6 SMEs, 2 universities and 3 main end-users. It is dedicated to a new laser system for non-aggressive internal engraving for traceability and innovative decorative applications. The project has begun the 1st October 2004 and benefits of the huge expertise of each of the companies in its special field of activity.

Objectives:
The objective of Naginels is to propose an innovative laser solution to answer the new market needs for transparent material. Present laser techniques are surface engraving (such as CO2 or UV laser) which are aggressive for the substrate. Nanosecond lasers allow inside engraving but create microcracks which may deteriorate the product. The new technology developed by the NAGINELS project permits to overcome these issues. It will be applied mainly in the following glass fields:
